Landscape Evaluation

Sources of information

For the first part of my photography assignment I had to pick 3 genres of photography to base my pictures on and research 3 photographers for each genre, I picked Fashion, Equine and Landscape. For my Landscape research I picked Ansel Adams, Fay Godwin and Marc Adamus as my 3 photographers. Firstly I researched on Ansel Adams as his work caught my eye as the use of black and white really brought out the detail in the pictures. Fay Godwins photographs grabbed my attention as they were also in black and white but with a bit more light than Ansel and this made the pictures different but still very beautiful. Also Marc Adamus’s photographs have a lot of colour to them and this really grabs your attention to the picture the bright colours and the silhouette of the surroundings give it that simple touch. I chose these photographers as they were all different to each other and had all produced amazing work. I was given inspiration by all three photographers but mainly Marc Adamus as I wanted the silhouette look on mine with the coloured sky but I will give it my own touch as I don’t want it to be too similar to theses photographers.

Production Process

Before going out and taking my own landscape pictures I taught how to use a SLR, lighting, rule of thirds and more so I could produce better photos. Also I had to sort out a post-production file filled with research, mind maps, shooting schedules, booking fees, recces, risk assessments and health and safety. I also had to decide on what look I was going for and just like my fashion and equine photography I decided I wanted the autumn feel to it but I wanted to focus more on the skies colour as I wanted to get the pinks and blues and purples but I didn’t want to chance not getting the photographs as it is quite hard to get them colours in the skies so I went out on the 11th of Novemeber which was a nice clear day and walked to the woods near my house and took pictures as the sky was blue I knew I could edit them on photoshop to have the colours I was looking for. Once the pictures were taken, the next day I got in to college and uploaded the pictures to a Mac and then opened photoshop. I then watched youtube tutorials on how to edit the sky on photoshop and edited my pictures the same way with just a couple of changes as the pictures on the videos was different to mine and I wanted to make them look realistic. Over all I am really happy with the out come of my photographs and I really enjoyed doing this assignment.

Equine Evaluation

Sources of information

For the first part of my photography assignment I had to pick 3 genres of photography to base my pictures on and research 3 photographers for each genre, I picked Fashion, Equine and Landscape. For my Equine research I picked David Sinclair, Matthew Seed and Tim Flach as my 3 photographers. Firstly I researched on David Sinclair as his work caught my eye as the use of lighting changed the pictures completely. Matthew Seeds photographs grabbed my attention as they were very dark with just a little light to show the horse, they are very simple and elegant and bring out the horse really great. Also Tim Flachs photography is very simple but with a lot of detail as he also gets the background nice and soft so that the horses stand out. I chose these photographers as they were all different to each other and had all produced amazing work. I was given inspiration by all three photographers but made sure the work I produced was my own as I want to be different in my photography work just like these photographers.

Before going out and taking my own equine pictures I taught how to use a SLR, lighting, rule of thirds and more so I could produce better photos. Also I had to sort out a post-production file filled with research, mind maps, shooting schedules, booking fees, recces, risk assessments and health and safety. I also had to decide on what look I was going for and just like my fashion photography I decided I wanted the autumn feel to it and wanted it to be all out doors as the leaves were falling to the floor all crispy and there was a lot of orange and brown colours about so I decided to do the shoot in the woods near my farm where I keep my horse as it was convenient for both me and the horse as I could just lead her around there and take the pictures I wanted to get and was the look I was looking for. When I went out on the 22nd of November I went with my horse in the afternoon to shoot and as I have been around this area with my pony before I already had ideas in my head so this helped as it saved time and I got the photographs done before it went dark. Once the pictures were taken, the next day I got in to college and uploaded the pictures to a Mac and then opened photoshop. I then lighten some of the shots as the trees made the scenery a bit dark, I then added a warm filter on it to brought out the oranges and browns of the autumn leaves. My intended audience is anyone interested in horses.

Fashion Evaluation

Fashion – Adidas

Sources of information

For the first part of my photography assignment I had to pick 3 genres of photography to base my pictures on and research 3 photographers for each genre, I picked Fashion, Equine and Landscape. For my fashion research I picked Tim Walker, Richard Avedon and Nick Knight as my 3 photographers. Firstly I researched on Tim Walker as his work caught my eye as the use of lighting and props changed the pictures completely, they are very simple photographs but they catch the attention of the audience as they are different. Richard Avedons photographs grabbed my attention as they were mostly in black and white but yet had so much detail in them, he caught the emotions of the models and used this to his advantage and got the best results in his pictures. Also Nick Knight is one of the worlds most influential photographers as he dares to be different by getting the models to pose differently to simple basic pose and gets amazing results. I chose these photographers as they were all different to each other and had all produced amazing work that are recognised all over the country. I was given inspiration by all three photographers but made sure the work I produced was my own as I want to be different in my photography work just like these photographers.

When I went out on the 21st of November I decided to go out early morning to check for places in the woods that would be good places to shoot at, I then went back with the model in the afternoon to shoot and as I had already been earlier that day I already had ideas in my head so this helped as it saved time and we got the photographs done before it went dark. My intended audience is males 16+ interested in fashion especially Adidas but can range to from young teenagers to older males.
